Bartels Park
Residents and their families are invited to enjoy visits, picnics and activities together in the Bartels Park, located on the Bartels grounds. Developed through generous gifts and donations, the park features a wheelchair-accessible walking trail, gazebo, and gliding swing, along with ample seating areas.

The park is beautifully landscaped with a butterfly garden, shade trees and numerous plantings of perennials, annuals and shrubbery. Residents are encouraged to participate in outdoor activities in the park, including hands-on gardening sessions led by our horticulture therapist.

Droste Ice Cream Den
Residents can enjoy free ice cream everyday in the Droste Ice Cream Den. Although open for self-service throughout the day, volunteers are on hand daily from 2 to 4 p.m. to serve residents the treat of the day. Guests can also enjoy ice cream in the den and take their treats to the adjacent outdoor patio. Freewill donations are accepted.

Transportation
Bartels has available two wheelchair-accessible vans, a mini-van, and chauffeur-licensed drivers for taking residents on outings, to medical appointments and on special outings scheduled by the Activity Department.

Support Services
Bartels provides extensive support services for all residents, including Activity Department, Chaplaincy Program, Housekeeping, Laundry, Maintenance, Volunteer Program, Bartels Auxiliary and Memorial Foundation. Beautician and barber shop services are available at Bartels by appointment.

Rehabilitation & Wellness Center
Rehabilitation Program

Inpatient and outpatient rehabilitative services are provided onsite for residents of the Bartels community.

Physical therapy helps restore individuals to their highest level of functioning for those experiencing neuromuscular or skeletal dysfunction. Treatment plans may include exercises to improve strength, range of motion and posture, wound care services and adaptive equipment training.

Occupational therapy assists persons in adapting to their social and physical environment. Services may include education and training in daily living skills, activities for memory and orientation, training for adaptive techniques or equipment, and exercises for coordination and maintaining joint movement.

Speech-Language Pathology addresses problems with communication and swallowing. Therapists can help individuals build oral muscle strength for speaking and swallowing, develop new listening strategies, and learn verbal and non-verbal communication techniques

Wellness Center
The Resident Wellness Center is set up with stations of Keiser strength training equipment designed for use by people of all abilities. The easy-to-use machines can be set as low as zero resistance, and a simple push of a button increases or decreases resistance.

All members of the Bartels Community can join strength training exercise sessions offered in the Wellness Center at Woodland Terrace. A member of our rehab/wellness team develops individualized strength training regimens for each participant and guides them during group sessions. The focus is on improving posture, balance and strength to help prevent falls and increase independence.
